Align College Planning With Career Goals

College isn’t just a stop along the way toward a career—it’s an important part of the journey. With Career and College Prep, students get tailored guidance and a skills-focused education that builds communication, collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking—all tools for success in college and beyond. By earning credits and certifications early, students can see how college connects to their career goals, helping them show up prepared, confident, and ready to make their college years count.

Save Time and Money Earning College Credits Early

Earning college credits while at a tuition-free online high school can lessen the course load for students in college, helping you save on costly tuition fees.

One benefit for students and parents is dual enrollment. Students take college courses (usually at no extra cost) that count toward both their high school diploma and college transcripts.

Many schools with Career and College Prep also offer Advanced Placement® (AP) courses and other opportunities for students looking to level up.

Dual Enrollment Success Stories

Nichole

parent*

“Being able to work with the [dual enrollment credit program has] been great. Our oldest was able to lighten her load. She was able to take some courses to figure out what she wanted to do when she started college. And our other daughter, she was completely a year ahead when she went into college, so she can be done earlier.”

Andy

“The fact that Max can take college classes at the same time has been really a huge cost saver. [Our state] has a program  that we take advantage of, where we don’t pay anything out of pocket as far as the college classes go. Being able to get those credits and have the flexibility to do that at the same time as [high] school, it’s a huge cost saver and it saves him time and accelerates his career track.”

Diamond

12th grade student***

“[K12] prepared me for coursework. They suggested college credit, but they specifically [recommended] psychology or sociology for one of my credits. On top of that, my teacher for that class introduced me to all these new programs and it just went from there.”

Guidance for the Gaps

Students lead the way, and we’re here to support them. Our approach offers strategies to align students’ career aspirations with their next step after high school in ways that empower them to take that step confidently.

Career and College Prep students work with experienced counselors who help personalize their plans to meet future goals. They help with course schedule mapping, resources for college applications, financial aid tips, and more. It’s important to have supportive people who can help see the bigger picture and offer ideas students can explore on their own.

Start Your Purposeful Path to College Success

We want to help students like yours get to where they want to be with the pathway that works best for them. Find a school near you that offers Career and College Prep.

Opportunities vary by school; please visit your school page or check with your school counselor. Career and College Prep is primarily a program for high school students, with some exploration components available in middle school. The available courses vary based on university partnerships, your student’s career pathway, etc., and it’s important to confirm with the college of their choice that credits will in fact transfer. Many Microsoft® Office certificates can be earned after completing one course. Other certificates require more classes to be better prepared, and students who participate in the program for at least two years will have further preparation for certification testing.
