Frequently Asked Questions
Are K12-powered schools different from homeschool?
Yes. While K12 does offer homeschoolers a wide array of curriculum for purchase, K12-powered schools are not the same as homeschool. Unlike traditional homeschooling, where parents choose curriculum and hold primary responsibility for instructing their children, K12-powered schools include a quality curriculum and provide teacher support and instruction. Parents can choose from tuition-free and tuition-based online school options that share the same requirements and benefits of brick-and-mortar schools.
Do online students have a flexible schedule?
While there is more room to decide your daily schedule, online students still have expected school days that follow a traditional academic calendar, and there are attendance requirements online students must meet. Students need to attend all live, online Class Connect sessions with their teachers when they are scheduled. However, where school happens is up to you! As long as students have an internet connection, they can work from home or on the go. And they can personalize learning by matching their lesson schedule to their strengths, whether that means tackling a tough subject first or starting with the class they like best.
How do students in online public schools socialize?
Throughout the year, students can participate in school outings, field trips, clubs, and other social events, hosted both virtually and in-person.† Online discussions and forums also allow K12-powered students to form communities that aren’t based on geography but rather shared interests, helping them to foster lasting friendships with peers across the country.
*Families do not pay tuition for a student to attend an online public school. Common household items and office supplies like printer ink and paper are not provided. Our enrollment consultants can help you address your technological and computer needs.
